About

Simon Bolton is an English painter who graduated in Fine Art from the University of Cumbria in 1986. After time spent living in Europe he returned to his native region of Cumbria in 1997 where he still resides.

He draws inspiration from this area of outstanding natural beauty, although, describes his work as hovering between the familiar and abstraction. This is possibly most evident in his use of colour which he views as an opportunity for self-expression, rather than opting for a more naturalistic approach.

As well as colour, there is also an abstract quality to form in his work, although this could be considered as working with existing elements of nature such as rock formations, or even the contours formed by the partition of land so frequently found throughout his rural surroundings.

Ultimately he wishes to leave this for the viewer to find their own conclusions. He just hopes they will feel a desire to observe the work with curiosity and to be moved in some way emotionally.

Simon has exhibited both here in the UK and in Europe, and has his work in private collections globally.
